Mannar
Away from the typical attractions, isolated in the North Western region, the Mannar peninsula is a land to be discovered by the ardent travelers.
It presents the only location to have a geographical connection with India, with a formation of naturally formed sandbanks across the ocean. A phenomenon that leads it to many interesting theories and beliefs.
Serving as a strategic location during the colonial administration of the country, the influence made by the invaders is evident with the ruined sites that can be seen to this day.

A simplistic destination with limited option of accommodation, Mannar is suitable for one who appreciates a secluded stay to enjoy some time of peace and quiet while uncovering the features special to the area.
Having connectivity both by both rail and road, currently travelling by road remains to be the most convenient.
Mahiyanganaya
A quiet town away from the populous destinations, Mahiyanganaya is an interesting place to visit and discover the historical roots of the island’s civilizations in a rich natural setting.
The destination is most known for the indigenous tribe known as the “Vedda” community, whom are believed to be descendants of the island’s earliest inhabitants. Traditional hunter-gatherers, who led simple lives, see and learn the way of their ancestors which they strive to protect with the threat of modernization.
Mahiyanganaya is also a natural wonder to explore. With open of fields of cultivation, to uninhabited jungle patches, large lakes and even roaring waterfalls, one is able to tread in to these locations for an immersive experience.
Located in a more rural setting in the central region of the island, it is only accessible by road. And being a simple destination, the available accommodation options are limited and remain simple, yet enjoyable.
Gal Oya
Untouched by time and bursting of natural beauty with a simple way of life, Gal Oya portrays the true rural beauty of the island.
An off the beaten path destination in its definition it is a hidden gem to be discovered.
This is the only location where it is possible to conduct a national park safari by boat. Sail on the largest reservoir exploring the exotic wildlife of terrestrial animals, aquatic animals and the fascinating birdlife roaming in the shores and the rocky islands.
Remarkably, this is also the only noted location to spot swimming elephants, a rare and breathtaking site.
A land for unblemished nature activities, tread in the dense forests for experiences never thought of, hike a verdant hill for a panoramic view of the area, or simply explore the rural village and mingle with the local community, which also includes an indigenous tribe.
Located towards the east, this hidden land is only reachable by road and offers a limited range of eco type accommodation.
Kalpitiya
A charming coastal destination in the North Western region, that stretches across a peninsula bordering the ocean from one end, and the lagoon in the other.
With attractive beaches spreading across an entire side of the land, ruins from the colonial period, and a stunning eco system with the lagoon it is a land for exploration.
Kalpitiya is a globally acclaimed hotspot for kitesurfing. The geographical features and favorable weather patterns offer ideal conditions for this sport, may it be a beginner, a professional, or even a first timer interested to try it out.
Interestingly, this is also a starting point for the seasonal whale and dolphin watching excursions.

Connectivity to Kalpitiya remains only via road.
Arugam Bay
Hidden in the south east part of the island, this unknown land is a wonder to be explored.
