In the Coasts
Chilaw
Embark on the epic odyssey that is the Ramayana.
Munneswaram Temple is a significant Hindu temple
complex located in Chilaw. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva
and is one of the five ancient temples dedicated to
Shiva in the country. The temple holds great cultural
and religious importance.
The Manavari Temple, located in the Mannar District of
Sri Lanka, is renowned as one of the primary temples
dedicated to Lord Rama’s worship outside of India. It is
believed to be the first temple in the world where Lord
Rama installed a lingam (a representation of Lord
Shiva) to atone for the sin of killing Ravana

Day 2
To the Mountain Dropped
Chilaw–Ritigala–Habarana
Travel inland to find a mystic land only to be explained
by the epic.
The Ritigala Nature Reserve, located in Sri Lanka, holds
significant importance in the context of the Ramayana.
Ritigala is believed to be the mountain range where
Hanuman, the devoted monkey god, flew while
carrying the mountain with the life-saving herb

Habarana–Sigiriya–Kandy
Though the rock fortress is famous for other reasons,

majestically into the heavens, this 5th-century fortress
and palace complex stand as a testament to human
ingenuity and perseverance.

The Sri Bhaktha Hanuman Temple is a notable Hindu
temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman, the ardent
devotee of Lord Rama and a central figure in the Indian
epic, the Ramayana.
Wander through the charming streets of Nuwara Eliya,
witnessing an era of colonial elegance and refinement.
Take your time to explore the beautiful locales that
Nuwara Eliya has to offer and unwind in the tranquil
embrace of its soothing landscapes.

Day 5
Land of Sita
Nuwara Eliya
The Sita Amman Temple is dedicated to Sita, the
consort of Lord Rama, and is an important site. The
temple stands at the exact location where Sita prayed
for Rama to rescue her.
Ashoka Vatika is believed to be the garden where Sita
was kept in captivity by the demon king Ravana after her abduction. The Hakgala Botanical Garden, is
considered to be part of the ancient Ashoka Vatika.
Divurumpola Temple is revered for its association with
Sita from the epic Ramayana, particularly with her
ordeal by fire, or Agni Pariksha, which she underwent
to prove her purity.

Nuwara Eliya–Kataragama
Hidden in the Caves
Travel southwards exploring the wonders of the Ravana
waterfall
According to the Ramayana, Ravana, the king of Lanka,
kidnapped Sita and brought her to Sri Lanka. It is
believed that he hid Sita in a cave behind the waterfall,
which is now known as Ravana Cave.
The waterfall and the cave are part of the larger
narrative of Sita’s captivity and the subsequent search
and rescue mission by Lord Rama, Hanuman, and the
Vanara army

Day 7
Of the Vibrancy
Kataragama–Galle
Visit the highlights of the south that connect to the
fascinating story.
Kataragama Temple is a significant religious site for
multiple faiths, including Hinduism, Buddhism, and
indigenous Vedda beliefs. In the context of the
Ramayana, Kataragama holds particular importance
due to its association with Lord Skanda (Murugan), the
Hindu god of war, who played a role in aiding Lord Rama during his quest to rescue Sita.
Rumassala Mountain, near the city of Galle is
associated with the epic due to its connection with the
story of Hanuman and the search for the Sanjeevani
herb.
Kataragama Temple
- Daily rituals and offerings are made at the temple
- special prayers and ceremonies conducted on auspicious days

Day 8
Epic in the Capital
Galle–Colombo
The epic connects in the commercial capital as well.
Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman, specifically
in his form as Panchamukha Anjaneya, which translates
to “five-faced Hanuman.” This unique form of
Hanuman is depicted with five faces, each representing
a different aspect of divinity.
The Kelaniya Temple, While it is primarily a Buddhist
site, it also has significant connections to the
Ramayana. It is believed to be the site where King
Vibhishana, the brother of the demon king Ravana,
ruled after Ravana’s defeat.
Panchamuga Anjaneyar Temple
- Panchamukha Anjaneya, is enshrined in a central sanctum
- Regular poojas and special ceremonies are conducted
Kelaniya Temple
- Center for Buddhist worship and activities
- contains exquisite paintings that illustrate both Buddhist and Ramayana themes
